Where is Ice Cove

Welcome to Ice Cove and our spoiler-free guide to all the filming locations of North of North.

Below, you'll find the locations listed in the order of their first appearance.

Ice Cove, Nunavut

Ice Cove Nunavut
The remote Arctic village of Ice Cove, Nunavut, is, at least in the series, far beyond the furthest place north you've ever been.

The town was filmed in Iqaluit, the capital and largest city of Nunavut, Canada's northernmost territory, home to about 7,400 people.

The establishing shot of the town was filmed in Apex, a small neighborhood of Iqaluit, located about five kilometers southeast of downtown.

North of North locations

North of North house
Siaja’s house is the last house on Paurngaq Crescent in Iqaluit and the easternmost building of the town, giving it a sense of remoteness.

The house is located almost directly next to the sea, even though you can't see it, because it's all covered in snow.

Neevee's Survival Shop
Siaja's mother, Neevee, lives in a beautiful home in Apex. The house features a circular set of windows, facing the ocean on one side and the Survival Shop on the other, even though the shop doesn't exist in real life.

As shown in the series, it's a short snowmobile ride from the daughter's home to her mom's, connecting Iqaluit with the smaller community of Apex.

Ice Cove community centre
Unikkaarvik Visitor Centre in Iqaluit served as Ice Cove’s community centre.

This location is a welcoming hub for travelers seeking to explore the region's rich culture and natural beauty, and includes some exhibits on Inuit history and wildlife.

North of North location
The spring festival in the first episode, "Top of the World," was filmed on a frozen lake called Imiqtarviminiq, located along the Road to Nowhere in Iqaluit.

Yes, the address of all these colorful building blocks is Road to Nowhere. Maybe they’re just big fans of the Talking Heads!

Ice Cove location
This establishing shot was filmed approximately 295 km (183 miles) northwest of Iqaluit, at the stunning Pangnirtung Fjord on Baffin Island.

At the mouth of this glacial fjord is a small settlement that serves as a base for exploring the area.

The Discovery Hotel Iqaluit
The Discovery Hotel is Iqaluit’s (and all of Nunavut’s) only boutique hotel.

The hotel's 36 modern rooms are priced from $108 to $136 CAD (about $80 to $100 USD) per night, depending on the room type and season.

Ice Cove School
The third episode, "Dumpcano", features Nanook Elementary School, located in Apex.

Historically, Apex developed in the late 1940s when the Hudson's Bay Company relocated its operations there. Inuit residents settled in the area due to restrictions on access to the nearby U.S. Air Force base in Iqaluit.

Apex Cemetery
In the fourth episode, "Joy to the Effing World", the helicopter hovers over the small Apex Cemetery under the astonished gaze of the parishioners.

Iqaluit Nunavut
According to Nunatsiaq News, the production used the Iqaluit Curling Club as a studio to film some interior shots.

The exterior also appears in a scene as the Ice Cove Post Office.

Tuktukalik
In the fifth episode, the residents of Ice Cove engage in a spirited game of baseball against their rival (fictional) town, Tuktukalik.

Although based on a traditional game called Anauligaaq, this isn't your typical baseball match.

Instead of standard equipment, the game features a unique twist: players use a walrus baculum, commonly referred to as a walrus penis bone.

The sequence was filmed in the area between the Red Boat and the old Hudson's Bay Company trading post. The party in the season finale was also filmed here.

Ice Cove Anglican Church
The Ice Cove Anglican Church in the season finale, "Bad Influences", is actually the St. Simon's Anglican Church in Apex.

Ice Cove map
On this map of the Nunavut Territory that appears in the series, Ice Cove is located in a central area, connecting this extensive region as a hub.

However, in real life, this is Prince of Wales Island, which is completely uninhabited.
