The Nutcrackers locations
The movie opens with a warning of what the Kicklighter boys are capable of: breaking into a local amusement park to get on one of the rides.
This scene was filmed at the Stricker's Grove Park in Ross, Ohio, a family-owned amusement park opened in 1924.
Surrounded by open fields in a rural area, this unique setting adds to the park's charm, making it feel like a hidden gem to visitors.

As the local press reported, the farmhouse was located in Blanchester, a village in the Warren-Clinton County.
With a population of around 4,000, the town has mobile phone coverage and is within driving distance of larger cities like Cincinnati (35 miles to the northeast).
The cast and crew spent about three weeks filming on this lovely farm.

The idea for the movie came to director David Gordon Green during a road trip to visit an old friend in rural Ohio.
The four children are his friend's sons, who had no prior acting experience but possessed a natural talent and charisma.
Two weeks later, Gordon decided to write a film about this family who were homeschooling their children.
The town near the farm (called Elsie, I read in a dance brochure) was filmed in Wilmington, Ohio.
With a population of about 12,500, the town has many beautifully preserved historic buildings, especially on and around Main Street, due to its 19th century prosperity as a trading and transportation hub.

Wilmington boasts the gorgeous The Murphy Theatre on Main Street, where the Nutcracker's Moustache play has to take place.
Built in 1918, this architectural gem was financed by Charles Webb Murphy, a Wilmington native and owner of the Chicago Cubs.
This beloved local landmark was built in the Beaux-Arts style, reflecting the grand theatres that were popular at the time.

Aloysius Cornelius' mansion is a magnificent 11,000-square-foot estate in Indian Hill, a suburb of Cincinnati.
According to Zillow, the six-bedroom home sits on 3.8 acres and has a large garden with a tennis court and the pool featured in the film.
The house was also featured in a forgotten 2018 John Travolta movie called Gotti.
