Inspired by a real-life story, The Deliverance was filmed entirely in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This supernatural horror film follows a mother who undergoes terrifying experiences when her children are possessed by demonic forces.

Where was The Deliverance filmed

The real house depicted in The Deliverance was located in Gary, Indiana, and the events occurred in 2011.

The character of Ebony Jackson, played by Andra Day, was in real life called Latoya Ammons, and her story has been extensively documented.

The exterior of the house was filmed at 113 Bessemer Avenue in East Pittsburgh.

According to Zillow, this three-bedroom, one-bathroom single-family home has an estimated value of just under $100,000.

The Deliverance location
However, as director Lee Daniels told TribLive, the interior of the house, along with the hospital, was built on the old Westinghouse Churchill site.

The original house gained national attention through various news outlets, documentaries, and paranormal investigations.

The Ammons haunted house in Gary
As reported in the original article published in the Indianapolis Star, the disturbing events that took place at the house, located at 3860 Carolina Street in Gary, included claims of children being lifted and thrown by unseen forces.

The house itself has since become a point of interest for paranormal enthusiasts. However, it was demolished in 2016 by Zak Bagans, a paranormal investigator and the host of the TV show Ghost Adventures.

Bagans had purchased the property to make a documentary called Demon House, which was released in 2018. After the film was made, he decided to demolish the house, citing concerns about the negative energy associated with it.

Where was The Deliverance filmed?

Trinity AME Zion Church
In the movie, only close-up shots of the Trinity AME Zion Church in Sheraden appear.

Built in the 1930s, the Netflix production may have provided the funds to repair and update the structure.

McDonald's Aliquippa
The McDonald's is the one located at 131 Pleasant Drive in Aliquippa.

Hidy's Café in Braddock
The bar that Ebony desperately enters to ask for help is Hidy's Café located between Rankin and Braddock.

Located under the Rankin Bridge, this bar was permanently closed in 2020.

Paramount's hit series Mayor of Kingstown was also filmed here.

Wilkinsburg High School
The school was filmed at the Wilkinsburg High School.

This historic institution, which dates back to its founding in 1910, closed in 2016 due to declining enrollment.

AGH Suburban Hospital in Bellevue
The hospital exterior was shot at AGH Suburban Hospital in Bellevue.

The center closed its doors in 2010 due to financial challenges and declining patient numbers.

Some scenes were also recorded at the former NXStage Kidney Care in Monroeville.

Norfolk Southern Port Perry Bridge
At the end of the movie, there are some establishing shots of the Norfolk Southern Port Perry Bridge and the Union RR Hot Metal Bridge over the Monongahela River.

The film also features the golden domes of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in McKees Rock.

George Westinghouse Memorial Bridge
The final bridge scene was shot on George Westinghouse Memorial Bridge in East Pittsburgh.

Completed in 1932, this impressive structure honors the famed inventor and industrialist George Westinghouse.

Spanning Turtle Creek Valley, its five arches and 1,598-foot length made it one of the longest concrete bridges of its time.

According to TribLive, some scenes were also filmed at the Taylor's Motel in North Versailles and the magnificent East Liberty Presbyterian Church in East Liberty.

Constructed between 1930 and 1935, this iconic Gothic Revival style church is known as the "Cathedral of Hope".
