Starring Kate Winslet as Elena Vernham, the paranoid chancellor of this fictional nation, much of the story takes place in a massive presidential palace.

The Regime palace
The Regime palatial residence of the government is a CGI'd version of the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria.
Built in the 18th century, this magnificent imperial residence epitomizes the splendor of the Habsburg monarchy.
In the series, this location has the same vibe as Ceaușescu's megalomaniac Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, Romania.

Many interior rooms, decorated with golden stucco from the Rococo style, were also filmed at the Schönbrunn Palace.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this iconic landmark attracts millions of visitors each year to marvel at its beauty and rich history.
The Schloss Schönbrunn was once Empress Sisi's summer residence.
Vernham's private palace chambers are the famous Bergl Rooms, also in Schönbrunn Palace.
Around 1766, Empress Maria Theresa commissioned trompe l'oeil murals by Johann Wenzel Bergl, to decorate this space with an exotic seaside landscape.
But let's go back to the hall and the stairs where Herbert Zubak was brought to Elena at the beginning of the first episode.
This is the Hofburg Imperial Palace, situated in the heart of Vienna, the principal residence and seat of power of the Habsburg dynasty for over six centuries.
Today, this historic landmark houses museums, libraries, and government offices, as well as hosting important state events and ceremonies.

After meeting with the Chancellor, the scene where Zubak is escorted to his quarters was filmed at the Esher Place in Surrey, England.
The interior of this Grade-II listed country house was remodeled in the 19th century to resemble a sumptuous French chateau.

The gardens and conservatory were filmed at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens in South Yorkshire.
Spanning 19 acres, this Victorian botanical oasis offers beautifully landscaped gardens and the historic glass pavilions featured in the show.
The scene just before Elena visits her father's crypt in the first episode, "Victory Day," was filmed on the columned staircase in the Swiss Wing of the Hofburg Palace.

The gymnasium in the second episode, "The Foundling", is the dining room of Wentworth Woodhouse, a stately home located near Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England.
This is one of the largest privately owned houses in Europe, boasting a rich history and impressive 18th-century architecture.

The Chancellor receives American Senator Judith Holt at the Liechtenstein Garden Palace in Vienna.
This stunning 17th-century Baroque palace is renowned for its opulent architecture and exquisite gardens.
Pictured, the Hercules Hall with its ceiling fresco by Andrea Pozzo, where also the press conference was filmed.

The 'Little Alexandria' library and the golden Rococo room where they trap the senator are also in the Liechtenstein Garden Palace.
Extensively restored and opened to the public in 2013, the palace houses the private art collection of the House of Liechtenstein, one of Austria's oldest noble families.
The hall is the spectacular marble saloon at the Wentworth Woodhouse.
The room's grand proportions and lavish ornamentation served as a reception area for guests and was used for entertaining during social gatherings and events hosted by the Wentworth family.
