Released in 2012, the first installement of the The Hunger Games was entirely filmed in North Carolina.
Set in the post-apocalyptic fictional nation of Panem, the movie follows Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, as she volunteers to participate in the deadly titular competition to save her younger sister.

The Hunger Games Locations
Katniss Everdeen lives in a mining town located in the District 12 area, a Panem region somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains.
The town was filmed in the Henry River Mill Village on the outskirts of Hickory in Burke County.
Today, the remains of this planned industrial community, complete with its own dam, are privately owned.
Built in the early 20th century, you can stay overnight in this heritage site, which offers daily tours and special events throughout the year.
The forest is a little further west, in an area called The Big Ivy or Coleman Boundary near Barnardsville.
This is a beautiful, remote section of the Appalachian Ranger District with waterfalls and trails in the Pisgah National Forest.

As Uptown Shelby reported, the Hall Of Justice and the location of the Reaping Ceremony were filmed in a private warehouse complex between Blanton and Smorgan Streets in Shelby, Cleveland County.
However, most of the sets that were used in the production were torn down after the filming was completed.

The establishing shots of the Capitol City, probably located in the Rocky Mountains, possibly Colorado, were all made using CGI.
According to Movie-locations.com, the production used the old Philip Morris Cabarrus Plant to build sets for several scenes that take place in the Capitol, such as the training center, but also for Districts 7 and 13.

Some scenes during the Tributes presentation were filmed at the Charlotte Convention Center.
Opened in 1995, this modern and versatile event facility located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte offers state-of-the-art amenities and ample space to host a wide range of conferences, trade shows, and gatherings.

Located near the Convention Center, the Knight Theater served as the venue for the player interviews conducted by Caesar Flickerman (played by Stanley Tucci).

The Cornucopia structure, which looks like a crushed Italian coffee machine, was located at the starting point of the games.
This was a set built on a private land near the North Fork Reservoir near Black Mountain and Asheville.

The forest scenes were filmed in the DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain.
This is a picturesque natural wonderland featuring stunning waterfalls, pristine lakes, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

The spot where Katniss tracks down Peeta (played by Josh Hutcherson) is the Triple Falls on the Little River.
However, the rocky shelter was located at the Pisgah National Forest.
The next three films, also based on the gripping and dystopian bestselling sci-fi novel series by Suzanne Collins, were filmed in Georgia, Hawaii, Germany and France.
