The psychological thriller is set in the fictional towns of Livingstone and Ridgewood in England, although the series is based on a Harlan Coben novel taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The eight-episode show is part of a deal that author Harlan Coben signed with Netflix to adapt 14 of his books as series for the streaming service company. Safe (2018), The Stranger, The Woods (both 2020), The Innocent, and Gone for Good (2021) are also part of this deal.
British actress Cush Jumbo (known for her roles in The Good Wife and The Good Fight) stars as former stripper Cassie / Megan Pierce. Richard Armitage, who previously also starred in The Stranger series, plays Ray Levine and James Nesbitt (Cold Feet) is police detective DS Michael Broome.
Congratulations. You’ve made it to the ultimate guide to Stay Close’s filming locations. We have (almost) everything right here.
Stay Close locations
The fictional town of Livingstone is an amalgam of locations, but most of the establishing shots were filmed in Blackpool.
The Central Pier, pictured here, appears several times in Stay Close.
The series always hides the iconic red steel Blackpool Tower from all scenes, including the Carnival Mardi Gras opening sequence, which was filmed on the city's famous seafront.
The Vipers Club
The key location of the series is the lap-dancing Vipers club, where Megan used to work as Cassie.
According to the local outlet Formby Bubble, the production recorded exterior scenes at the old Shorrocks Hill Country Club site, in February 2021.
Abandoned since 2015, this health club and spa is located in Formby (Merseyside), just about 13 miles north of Liverpool. This small town is surrounded by pinewoods and a large sand dunes beach with plenty of wildlife.
