Now back for season two, The Sex Lives of College Girls is set in a fictional school, Essex College located in Vermont.
HBO comedy series created by The Office's Mindy Kaling was filmed at the magnificent Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The show focuses on the experiences of four freshman roommates from different backgrounds at a New England college of good reputation.
The cast is led by Pauline Chalamet (Dune's Timothee Chalamet’s sister) as Kimberly, Reneé Rapp as Leighton, Amrit Kaur as Bela, and Alyah Chanelle Scott as Whitney.

Where is The Sex Lives of College Girls filmed?
The Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, in the Hudson River Valley, doubled as the Essex College in Vermont.
This prestigious institution, established in 1861, is a private liberal arts college.
Pictured, the iconic Thompson Library, built in 1937, which appears in many establishing shots.

The campus of the Vassar comprises over 1,000 acres and more than 100 buildings.
The Hudson Valley Film Commission reported that the shoot lasted three weeks over the course of June 2021.

Filming at the school took place mostly outside of buildings, although the library was also used for interior scenes.
The list of locations at the Vassar includes the main gate, the president’s house, the Rockefeller Hall, the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film, the Blodgett Hall, and the athletic fields areas where Whitney plays soccer.
The exterior of the campus bar Sips, where Kimberly is hired for a work-study job, is located at the dining hall of the Vassar in a building called The Deece.
However, the interior was filmed somewhere else. The showrunners built several sets to film interior scenes at Market Street Industrial Park, formerly known as the Bleachery, in Wappingers Falls.

Most of the scenes outside the campus were filmed in Arlington, the suburb of Poughkeepsie.
Whitney, the daughter of a U.S. senator, stumbles upon her coach on the corner of Raymond with Collegeview Avenues.

Also in the first episode, "Welcome to Essex", a couple of boys invite Bela and Leighton to a party outside a fictional bar called Fox Hole Donuts.
The scene was recorded at the All Shook Up Cafe and Juice Bar on Raymond Avenue.

The statue of Essex College's founder, John, who wears a silly hat and died in the snow, was a movie prop installed on campus just for filming.
The statue is inspired by a similar monument of the real founder of Vassar College, Matthew Vassar.
There is a real town in Vermont called Essex in Chittenden County, the second-most populous city in the state, with about 22,000 inhabitants.

Vassar is coed since the 70s, it is no longer a women’s college.

The town of Essex Vermont isn’t the second largest, it doesn’t have 42,000 people! Oh, the website says 22,000.
