Where was Fear Street filmed? Camp Nightwing & the Shadyside Mall Filming Locations
Posted by Ra Moon
A history of horror has earned Shadyside the title of the killer capital of the USA. This real town in Ohio is the setting for the three-part film event that Netflix is releasing in the span of three weeks.
Based on the best-selling book series by R. L. Stine (who also wrote the Goosebumps children's horror fiction novels), the Fear Street trilogy was primarily filmed in Georgia.
Based on the best-selling book series by R. L. Stine (who also wrote the Goosebumps children's horror fiction novels), the Fear Street trilogy was primarily filmed in Georgia.
Director Leigh Janiak (who created the 2014 indie horror film Honeymoon), took a stab at shooting all three movies at once.
The filmmaker told The New York Times that Part One: 1994, pays homage to the Scream movie series and 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer. Part Two: 1978 is inspired by Friday the 13th and the original Halloween. Finally, Part Three: 1666 references the classic Terrence Malick’s 2005 film The New World.
The main cast is led by Sadie Sink as Ziggy (Stranger Things, Eli), Kiana Madeira as Deena (Trinkets), Benjamin Flores Jr. as Josh (Your Honor, Rim of the World), Olivia Scott Welch as Sam (Panic), Chiara Aurelia as Sheila (Cruel Summer), and Ashley Zukerman (Succession) as sheriff Nick Goode.
Welcome to Shadyside, Ohio, and our slashing guide to the filming locations of the three Fear Street movies:
The Shadyside Mall
Part One: 1994 opens at the Shadyside Mall, which is the same location where the Roxxcart superstore featured in the Marvel series Loki was filmed.
Opened in 1965, today the North DeKalb Mall in Decatur is not as popular as it was in the 1980s. Many stores are vacant, but its owners took advantage of this, renting the space to film productions.
The mall can also be seen in Cobra Kai, Clint Eastwood's The Mule, MacGyver, and Zombieland 2.
After the massacre at the mall, the Shadyside Witches football team and cheerleaders attend a vigil held by Sunnyvale.
Established in 1666, Sunnyvale is the town next door, full of palatial estates and mansions where not a single violent crime has been committed in the last 30 years.
The stadium was filmed at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, home of the Mustangs.

As some Redditors noticed, the exterior of the police station is the same location used as the Hawkins Post in Stranger Things.
The sheriff's office is a house located at 6980 Main Street in Lithonia.

Simon (played by Fred Hechinger) meets Ruby Lane (Jordyn DiNatale), the singing murderer with a razor, here on Lithonia's Main Street.
The Grab and Bag supermarket where the group is attacked by the undead is the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Woodland Hills, Atlanta.

Camp Nightwing
Most of Fear Street Part Two: 1978 takes place in the fictional Camp Nightwing, where Tommy, a possessed counselor, chases the teenagers with an axe.
All these scenes were filmed at Camp Rutledge, one of the two camps centered around Lake Rutledge on Hard Labor Creek State Park.
Camp Rutledge is home to the long-running youth summer camp held by the Peachtree Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.
Some people believe that the camp and the surrounding forest are actually haunted by nature spirits - The area was featured in an episode of the paranormal reality television series Ghost Hunters.
According to Atlanta Magazine, the trilogy of movies also had scenes filmed at the abandoned hospital in Newnan, the historic Marshall Middle School in DeKalb County, Stone Mountain Park, McDonough, and Hampton.

I knew it was Georgia! Without even having to look it up. In the first episode, while "Creep" was playing and she was on the bus, it looked exactly like the rural area near my house. Plus Georgia is super cheap for filming and offers major tax cuts for the industry!

I had the exact same thought during the exact same moment! Knew it was Georgia while Creep was playing at the beginning of the 1st movie.
