Welcome to Ancadia: Where was A Christmas Carousel filmed?
Posted by Ra Moon
Set in the fictional Kingdom of Ancadia, located somewhere in old Europe, A Christmas Carousel was entirely filmed in Ontario, Canada.
The romantic movie boasts magnificent locations shot in Ottawa and North Bay.

This is one of these lovely and cheesy holiday Hallmark movies (the channel created 40 new films only this season) that follows the formula: guy or girl with a “big city job” (in this case, the prince) learns to slow down, finding love and the true meaning of Christmas along the way.
The film stars Rachel Boston (who you may have seen in Witches of East End or In Plain Sight) as Lila, hired by the royal family of Ancadia to repair a carousel and Neal Bledsoe (Shameless, Coming Home for Christmas) as Prince Whitaker.
Here is our complete guide to the filming locations of A Christmas Carousel:
The Winter Wonderland Carousel featured in the movie belongs to the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company and it's located along Memorial Drive at North Bay's Waterfront.
However, as you can check in the image, the royal castle was CGI'd in the background.
The carousel opened in 2005, but it is based on a 1908 mechanism that was restored, adding also new carved horses made by local artists.
The railroad station is the North Bay Museum, a 1903 restored train station with a heritage steam locomotive, located on the same grounds as the merry-go-round.
Ancadia's Royal Palace is the Fairmont Château Laurier in downtown Ottawa, very close to Parliament Hill and all the Capitol's landmarks.
Many scenes were filmed in the lobby, corridors, and hall of this luxury hotel resembling a French castle. According to Booking.com, you can stay in this historic complex featuring an indoor pool and a modern fitness center for about US$230.

There are also available gorgeous classically furnished suites for US$400.
The Fairmont Hotel is also the key location where A Winter Getaway was filmed.
But, where is Ancadia, the rest of the nation? Not all the locations were filmed in North Bay or Ottawa.
These two churches pictured are stock images from central European towns, probably located in Austria or Southern Germany, that were used as establishing shots.
One of our readers recognized the temple pictured on top. It is the Parish Church of St. Sebastian in the village of Ramsau in Berchtesgaden, a charming German town in the Bavarian Alps, located just a few miles away from the Austrian border.

Ancadia is one more in the long list of fictional countries that appear in festive movies, like Montenaro and Belgravia from The Princess Switch, and Aldovia and Penglia from A Christmas Prince, just to name a few.

Hello, The top photo is a church in southern Germany that my husband and I have visited many times. It is in the village of Ramsau in Berchtesgaden. We thought we recognized it in the brief glimpse from the movie!
