Created by Sex and the City mastermind Darren Star, Emily in Paris returns for season four with new chic locations.
Paris is the real star of the series. The show is like a melange of this ultra-popular classic series with the hilarious situations narrated in the novel by Stephen Clarke A Year in the Merde.

If this book was telling the story of an Englishman experiencing the cultural differences between the British and the French, in the new Netflix series Emily is a Midwestern American woman who will have to navigate her peculiar clash of cultures in the City of Light.
Lily Collins (Les Misérables, Tolkien) leads the cast as Emily Cooper, the young marketing executive and media influencer from Chicago, enjoying the dream of living in the French capital in style.
Let's have a spoiler-free look into the house, the restaurant, and all the wonderful spots featured in the show, listed in order of appearance. You'll find all the new season 4 updates below in the report.
The Emily in Paris House
Emily's fifth-floor apartment with views is located at 1 Place de l'Estrapade. This is right in the heart of the 5th arrondissement, also known as the Latin Quarter, in the central area of Paris.
The house is one block away from the Panthéon and around 200 meters (excuse-moi, 650 feet) from Sorbonne University and Le Jardin du Luxembourg, where she goes jogging at the beginning of episode two.
Where was Emily in Paris filmed?
The French luxury marketing agency Savoir offices, where Emily has to deal with her bitchy boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), is next to the real antique store Galerie Patrick Fourtin.
The building is located in Place de Valois, just two small blocks away from the Louvre Museum in the 1st arrondissement.
The bar where the agency's colleagues hang out after (and before) working hours is the Bistrot Valois, situated in the same square.

Emily meets her new best friend and partner in crime Mindy Chen (played by Ashley Park) in the Jardin du Palais Royal, the elegant 17th-century square located near the office.

Also in the first episode, Luc (Bruno Gouery) meets Emily on the terrace of the riverfront restaurant Le Flore en l'Île.
Situated near Notre-Dame cathedral, on the other side of the Saint-Louis bridge that connects the two small central islands in the Seine river, this is the perfect spot to try the famous Berthillon ice cream.

Architectural Digest reported that the Gilbert Group soireé in the second episode, where Emily meets Antoine Lambert (William Abadie), was filmed at Café de l'Homme in Place du Trocadéro.
This very pricey restaurant is famous for its perfect setting featuring an unobstructed view over the Eiffel Tower.

Les Deux Compères, Chez Lavaux, or L'Esprit de Gigi Restaurant
Gabriel's restaurant, in the series Les Deux Compères (Chez Lavaux in season 2, L'Esprit de Gigi in season 3), it's an Italian bistro called Terra Nera in real life.
Set in an old butchery, this small eatery is located at 18 Rue des Fossés Saint-Jacques, adjacent to the Place de l'Estrapade where both Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo) and Emily live.
The Café de la Nouvelle Mairie located just across the street appears in episodes five and six.

Les Deux Compères is side by side with the bakery La Boulangerie Moderne.
This is also a real pastry shop where you can try awesome croissants, brioches, and -bien sûr- baguettes.
Place de l'Estrapade is the same location where The Killer was filmed.

Emily receives a call from his boyfriend in the Rue Soufflot. She walks to the Panthéon, the national mausoleum for the remains of distinguished French citizens.
The language school exterior is a student accommodation residence called Concordia at 41 Rue Tournefort.

The third episode begins with Emily running by the Seine river near the Pont des Arts. The open-air red box urinals do really exist; Men can take a leak while watching the tourist boats pass by in the eco-friendly uritrottoir, designed to avoid public peeing.
And while we're on the subject, we can confirm that walking the streets of any city in France without stepping in dog poop is hard as hell!

Emily and Mindy have a drink in one of the few cafés situated under the arcaded gallery of Jardin du Palais Royal.
The restaurant Le Grand Véfour which appears in episode four (where Emily confirmed the wrong date on the booking), is also located here.
This two Michelin stars restaurant, run by chef Guy Martin, is one of the oldest in Paris.

The filming of the commercial for the perfume brand was filmed in the Pont Alexandre III.
Connecting the Invalides and Eiffel Tower quarter with the Champs-Élysées, this magnificent Art Nouveau structure was opened in 1900.
Pont Alexandre III is one of the most ornate and exuberant bridges in the whole city.

The Dureé Cosmetics influencer event is held in one of the noble 17th-century reception rooms of the Hotel d'Evreux, with instagrammable views of the 1810 bronze column of Place Vendôme.
This luxurious building reminds us of the fictional Gulacsy Hotel from the Inventing Anna series.

The Atelier des Lumières is a spectacular venue where the visitors immerse themselves in the paintings projected on the walls.
Located at 38 Rue Saint-Maur (11e arrondissement), this art center opened in 2018. The original idea was developed inside an old white limestone quarry in the south of France as early as 1976.

The night out in Montmartre from episode five starts at the picturesque eatery La Maison Rose at 2 Rue de l'Abreuvoir.
The place chosen by the mattress company Hästens to set up a photoshoot is located down at the end of this beautiful street.

According to Thomas the snob guy, he and Emily are sitting in the coolest bar in the city, the Café de Flore in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Opened in the 1880s, this coffeehouse was really frequented by famous sculptors, writers, and painters.
Also in episode 6, it appears the Lulu la Nantaise creperie at 46 Rue de la République near Canal Saint-Martin (10th arrondissement).

During the night at the ballet, Emily talks to Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet) about Gossip Girl in one of the main box seats of the luxurious and iconic Palais Garnier or Opéra Garnier.

Top model Brooklyn Clark (Carlson Young) stayed at the Haute Couture Suite with Eiffel Tower views of the opulent Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
As you can see by following this link, the cheapest room costs about 1,000 Euros per night.
The Fourtier party takes place at the Musée des Arts Forains, an extravagant museum of fairground and funfair objects hosted at the Pavillons de Bercy.

In the 8th episode, Camille (Camille Razat) and Emily have cocktails in the Hanoi Cà phê, a Vietnamese 'Cang Tîn' at 30 Boulevard des Italiens.
Camille takes Gabriel and Emily to her family's countryside manor Château de Lalisse and cellars in the Champagne wine region. This is actually the Château de Sonnay near Chinon in the Centre-Val de Loire region.
The metallic bridge pictured below is located in Chinon, a splendid medieval UNESCO World Heritage town.

Emily had lunch with Judith Robertson from the American Friends of the Louvre at Ralph's, the Ralph Lauren restaurant at 173 Boulevard Saint-Germain.
In this episode, there are three different scenes filmed very close to each other: Emily talks on the phone on Rue de l'Abbaye, near the intersection with the small Rue Cardinale; Rue Cardinale is the street walks down coming from the art gallery with Mathieu Cadault (Charles Martins).
This is the same place where The Grey Space guys have their workshop.

The auction theater's exterior is an establishing shot of the facade of the 18th-century Monnaie de Paris palace (the French national mint), seen from the Seine river.
However, the theater's interior was recorded at Le Trianon, a concert hall at 80, boulevard de Rochechouart (18th arrondissement).

In the season finale, Emily and Mindy are having a drink in the '50s style Les Deux Stations bistro in Auteuil. Mathieu takes Emily out on a boat around the river, picking her up at the floating restaurant La Pause Parisienne.
Mathieu's penthouse should be located at Quai de la Mégisserie, with views to the Pont Neuf and the central Île de la Cité. The love locks bridge is the Pont des Arts.
The new Pierre Cadault collection is also presented in the Monnaie de Paris palace, but this time the scene was filmed in the interior courtyard of the building.

The New Season 2 Locations
In the first episode, "Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi?", Mindy performs for the first time at Nouvelle Eve Cabaret, one of the oldest theatres in Montmartre.

According to People, the train station in the second episode was filmed in Gare de l'Est. The production got an Orient Express train to record these scenes, although the legendary train doesn't travel to the Côte d’Azur.
Some of the scenes in Saint-Tropez were filmed in Villefranche-sur-Mer, located about 70 miles away from the glamorous Mediterranean town, although the aerial establishing shots are really from Saint-Tropez.
Decorated by Jean Cocteau, the Saint-Pierre's Chapel, pictured, is also located in Villefranche-sur-Mer.

The lighthouse, the small beach pictured (Plage de la Glaye), and the Senequier restaurant are located in the historic center of Saint-Tropez.
The opulent hotel is the 5-star Grand-Hôtel Du Cap-Ferrat and the swimming pool is the Club Dauphin, both located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
The 'Champère' restaurant on the beach is Paloma Beach, also located in the same village.
The mansion featured in the party (pictured) is Villa Carmella or the Château Diter in Mougins, the renaissance-style palace used as the Clios family home in the Riviera series.

The establishing shots of this cool harbor are from Port-Grimaud, located near Saint Tropez.

The exterior of the Hammam from episode 3, "Bon Anniversaire!", was filmed at Hammam Paris Mosque at 39 Rue Geoffroy-Saint-Hilaire in Paris.
However, the interior scenes were recorded at Les Cent Ciels hammam at 7 Rue de Nemours in the XIth arrondissement.
The Père Lachaise Cemetery, where Honoré de Balzac's tomb is located, is situated in the 20th arrondissement.

La Samaritaine is an elegant department store, located near the Louvre Museum, hosted in an impressive Art Nouveau and Art Déco building completed in 1869.
The cinema where Luc and Emily go to watch Jules and Jim, Le Champo, is a classic arthouse cinema in the Latin Quarter of Paris.

The monumental fountain with dragons where Mindy plays with her band in episode four is the Fontaine Saint-Michel, built in 1860.
The small diner where Emily meets Alfie (played by Lucien Laviscount) in episode five, "An Englishman in Paris", is the Breakfast In America at 4 Rue Malher in St Gervais.
There is also a small scene filmed at the Galeries Lafayette Terrace with views of Opéra Palais Garnier.

The scene pictured from episode seven, "The Cook, the Thief, Her Ghost, and His Lover", was recorded at Place des Vosges in the heart of Le Marais neighborhood.
The Bombardier pub from the same episode is located at Panthéon Square.
The Gothic church from episode nine, "Scents and Sensibility", is Saint-Eustache in Les Halles.

The Huatian Chinagora from the last episode, "French Revolution", is a Chinese-themed hotel and restaurant.
The series was filmed at the famous Hall of Mirrors, the grand gallery in the Royal Palace of Versailles.
La Coupole, pictured, is a superb Art-Decó brasserie on Montparnasse Boulevard.

The New Season 3 Locations
The Pierre Cadault tribute was filmed at the Decorative Arts Museum (Musée des Arts Décoratifs) in the Louvre's Rohan and Marsan wings.
Le Temps des Cerises restaurant is a Parisian bistro located between the Place de la Bastille and the Marais.

La Trompette Bleue
The exterior of the fictional jazz club in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, La Trompette bleue, is the Discotheque Orientale Mawal at 106 Clichy Avenue in the Épinettes neighborhood.
However, the interior was filmed at the classic La Nouvelle Eve cabaret at 25 Rue Pierre Fontaine in Montmartre.
This lovely Belle Epoque–style venue is one of the oldest revue theatres in Paris.

The Tiffany and Co. store from the second episode, "I Have Two Lovers", is located on Champs-Elysses Avenue.
In the third episode, "Coo D'état", Emily and Madeline, Emily's boss in Chicago, are in a suite in the Four Seasons Hotel George V, a luxurious hotel located very close to The Champs Elysées (pictured).

The Grande Roue de Paris is a 200 feet tall (60 meters) Ferris wheel, in the Fête foraine des Tuileries near the Louvre.

The spectacular Hôtel Molitor, located near the Roland Garros Stadium in the 16th district of Paris, is a 5-star resort featuring this cool outdoor swimming pool.

The hot-air balloon ride was filmed at the Château de Montpoupon in the fabulous Loire Valley.
Located about two and a half hours southwest of Paris, this historic castle, inhabited by the same family since 1857, is open to visitors.
This fortress has faced many wars and invasions over centuries, but as its motto engraved on the chimney reads: In the darkness, I will survive (original in Latin: In tenebris adest).

The New Emily in Paris Season 4 Locations
The first episode of the fourth season, "Break Point," opens with a scene filmed at the Brasserie Des Prés near the Odéon metro station.

The spot where Timothée (played by Victor Meutelet) finds out that he is appearing in an ad campaign is located on the Boulevard De Grenelle near the Bir-Hakeim metro station on line 6.
This episode also features the famous Roland Garros Stadium, which was built in 1927 and has undergone several modernizations over the years.

Great article, fun show, especially for those of us kept away from Paris this year by the covid madness.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder where that bridge with the lovelocks is? It's not the Pont des Arts, which was wiped clean of locks in June, 2015. Also, the very recognizable, Institute De France sits at its entrance on the Left Bank and the planks run cross-wise rather than length-wise as they do in the "Emily and Sylvie" scene. So where?
It's the footbridge formerly called the Passerelle Solferino or the Pont Solferino. It's is a pedestrian bridge constructed between 1997 and 1999, then renamed in 2006 in memory of Leopold Sedar Senghor, who was a writer, politician and served as the first president of Senegal for two decades. It links the Orsay Museum with the Tuileries Gardens. I used to use it years ago on occasional weekends, after enjoying a visit to the Orsay Museum, to go over to the Tuileries, after which I strolled across those Gardens to visit the WH Smith English bookstore on the Rue de Rivoli. Ah, those good old days back in Paris....
DeleteI am quite certain that Mathieu Cadault's penthouse is located at 50 Quai des Orfèvres. The look onto Pont Neuf is like the one from Île de la Cité.
