The Cobra Kai House & ALL the Filming Locations
Posted by Ra Moon
The old rivalry is reborn. The first season of the Karate Kid spinoff, which premiered back in 2018, was an unexpected surprise and became one of our favorite shows of the year.
Cobra Kai is set in Los Angeles, but it was primarily filmed in Atlanta. The third season was also partially filmed in Okinawa, Japan, and the sixth season in Barcelona, Catalonia.
Cobra Kai is set in Los Angeles, but it was primarily filmed in Atlanta. The third season was also partially filmed in Okinawa, Japan, and the sixth season in Barcelona, Catalonia.
The series portrays successful, middle-aged Daniel, living with his almost perfect family in a beautiful house, running a lucrative Doyona cars dealership.
On the other hand, his nemesis Johnny is rather a loser, struggling to make a living.
The action picks up 30 years after the events from the original 1984 movie, following the duo from a different perspective (was Daniel really the good guy?).
Actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who have remained friends during all these years in real life, return to their roles bringing a great sense of humor, easter eggs, and plenty of fight sequences.
After Google bowed out of the video streaming market (YouTube Red), Netflix acquired the rights to the martial arts show.
Welcome to the best and most complete guide to the filming locations of Cobra Kai that you will ever need. You’ll find the locations in order of appearance, with the new season six updates below in the report.
Where was Cobra Kai filmed?
Johnny roams around town with his old Pontiac Firebird. The upper picture is at Ventura and Burbank Boulevard.
Beneath, the scene when he gets fired from his handyman job is the Mulholland Scenic Overlook.

The interior of the new Cobra Kai Dojo was filmed on a soundstage at Gray Studios Atlanta.
The exterior is located in the Crossroads Shopping Center in Atlanta at 2779 Lakewood Avenue SW.
The Google Maps street view still shows the sign of the martial arts school, the convenience store, the pawnshop, and the Armenian restaurant.
The dojo has a couple of reviews so far, all 5-star. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy!
The facade of John Kreese's (played by Martin Kove) old Cobra Kai dojo that appears in the series was also set in an empty shop of the Crossroads Shopping Center in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood.
The original one from the movie was located at 5223 Lankershim Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The Cobra Kai House
The LaRusso family home is a mansion at 130 Woodlawn Dr. NE in Marietta, although in the show the house is located in Encino, a wealthy part of the valley.
In Karate Kid, the locations are reversed: Daniel and his mother (Randee Heller) resided at Reseda, a low-income area, and Johnny was from Encino.
This luxurious Tuscan villa has an estimated home value of $2.4M in Zillow. The property features an indoor atrium and one acre of outdoor space including a swimming pool, spa, and greenhouse.
However, the new Miyagi Dojo is a set built at the studios

The Reel To Real movie blog reported more key locations. The LaRusso Auto Group in season one is located at 6740 Oakley Industrial Boulevard in Union City, home of the Atlanta Motors Superstore.
In Season 2 the LaRusso North Hollywood branch was filmed very close to the original location, in the Butler Lexus of South Atlanta headquarters at 4025 Jonesboro Road, also in Union City.

The All Valley Sports Arena is not the original one from Karate Kid, which according to Then and Now, was recorded at The Matadome Gymnasium on the campus of California State University in Northridge (Los Angeles).
On this occasion, the 50th Anniversary All Valley Under-18 Karate Championship was filmed at the Gymnasium of the Kennesaw State University in Marietta (GA).
Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), Samantha (Mary Mouser), and Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) are attending West Valley High School, filmed at C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center in Adamsville, Atlanta.
However, the merciless fight in the season two finale was recorded at Atlanta Technical College.

The training scenes in season one look like the beautiful Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area or somewhere in Stone Mountain Park.

The Encino Oaks Country Club where Johnny took his girlfriend Ali in the Karate Kid movie is now frequented by the LaRussos. The exclusive lodge was filmed in the Druid Hills Golf Club.
The Oaks on The Beach Club with the swimming pool from episode 4 of season 2 (pictured below) is the Olde Towne Athletic Club in Marietta.
The homage to Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita, who passed away in 2005) was filmed in the Westview Cemetery, the same location featured in Ozark Season 3.

The cool South Seas Apartments with two tall palm trees where Daniel and his mom used to live is located at 19223 Saticoy Street in Reseda.
Back in 1984, the building was even cooler, featuring a few more large trees. After this scene, the two old rivals have a drink at the 529 Bar in East Atlanta.
In season two, the beach scene from episode four with Robby (Tanner Buchanan) was filmed at the Tybee Island Pier.
The shopping center from Episode 5 is the North DeKalb Mall in Decatur.
In episode 6, when Johnny and his old high school friends meet in a bar in Big Bear Lake, they are actually in the Ideal Sportsbar in Lakewood Heights (Atlanta).
The 80's night at the skating rink from episode 8 is the Cascade Family Skating in Adamsville.
The episode 9 restaurant, where the two couples share a table, is the Mojave Restaurant in Sandy Springs.

Season 3 Locations in Japan
In season 3, Daniel travels to Japan, visiting the Tomi village in Okinawa (Miyagi’s hometown), featured in The Karate Kid Part II.
The twin skyscrapers of the Doyona International headquarters is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
The white modern entrance hall is the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

Not all of Tomi Village is a shopping mall. The scene on the viewpoint was filmed at the Mutabaru Observatory Ogimi Village Park, overlooking Shioya Bay and the small Miyagi Island.

Later on, Chozen, Daniel's old rival in Karate Kid 2, shows Daniel the secret scrolls of Miyagi-Do in Daisekirinzan in Ashimui.
Surrounded by subtropical jungle on the north of the island, this limestone area of rocky peaks is considered Okinawa's oldest sacred place.

However, the Tomi Village Green scenes were filmed in the interior courtyard of Kenny's Alley in Underground Atlanta.

The lake where Sam and Daniel are on a boat in episode seven, "Obstáculos", is the Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series also filmed scenes in this scenic park situated only minutes away from downtown Atlanta.

The Ventura Zoo from episode 9, Feel the Night, is the Fernbank Science Center, a natural history museum located near Decatur.

The Northridge City Council chambers from episode 8, "The Good, The Bad, and the Badass", are actually the Marietta City Hall chambers (Georgia).

Season 4
In the first episode, "Let's Begin", the establishing shots of Terry Silver's house (Kreese’s rich partner in The Karate Kid Part III, played by Thomas Ian Griffith) were filmed in Malibu. Pictured, Lechuza Point.

In the second episode, "First Learn Stand", the hockey game at the Winnetka Ice Arena, home of the fictional Tujunga Terrors, was actually filmed at Atlanta IceForum in Duluth.
Winnetka and Sunland-Tujunga are neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

The old-fashioned bar in episode five, "Match Point", is The Club at Chops, a small smoking lounge located at the One Buckhead Plaza.

In the same episode, Terry and Kreese have diner in one of the most expensive restaurants in Atlanta, the Chops Lobster Bar, also located in the same building as the Club at Chops.

The West Vallet High Junior Prom venue is The Biltmore Ballrooms of the historic Biltmore Hotel, built in Midtown Atlanta in 1924.

Season 5
The new Cobra Kai dojo in season five was filmed at the Space Lab Tvsdesign gym in Adair Park near the Blue Tower by the Westend Marta Station in Atlanta.

Terry Silver’s house in season five is the Brookhaven Balinese in Ashford Park, North Atlanta.
Built in 2019, this resort-style house, reminiscent of the South Pacific, features a spectacular courtyard pool.
Have you noticed the painting on Terry's living room that appears in the season finale? This is Rembrandt’s ‘Storm on the Sea of Galilee’, stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990. The story of one of the world's biggest art heists was examined in the 2021 Netflix series This Is a Robbery.

The Splasharama Water Adventure park from the fourth episode, "Downward Spiral", is the Mountain Park Aquatic Center in Stone Mountain.

The New Season 6 Locations
Master Kim's dojo was filmed at Dunaway Gardens in Newnan.
Once a retreat and training ground for actors in the early 20th century, the gardens have been restored to serve as a venue for weddings and events.

But the establishing shot that briefly appears in the third episode, "Sleeper," comes from Semuc Champey in Guatemala.
Nestled in the lush jungle of the Cahabón River, this spectacular group of turquoise travertine terraces is a popular stop for backpackers traveling between Flores and Antigua.

The college party in the second episode, "The Prize," takes place in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity building at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Image courtesy of Netflix - Map
This season, the LaRusso Auto Group building was filmed at the Riverside EpiCenter in Austell.
This complex is a multipurpose facility offering a range of recreational, fitness, and event spaces.

The second part of season six takes place in Barcelona, where the Sekai Taikai International Karate Tournament is being held.
But the entire tournament was filmed at The Eastern in Atlanta with most of the cast and crew.
Located in the Dairies complex in Reynoldstown, this is a great venue for concerts and all kinds of events.

The teams stay at the W Barcelona, often referred to as the "Sail Hotel," a luxury beachfront hotel located in the Barceloneta district.
The hall and all the interiors were probably filmed somewhere in Atlanta.
Image courtesy of Netflix - Map
In the sixth episode, "Benvinguts a Barcelona", there is an exterior shot of the Barcelona Aquarium in Port Vell.
However, the interior scene was filmed at the Georgia Aquarium's underwater tunnel in downtown Atlanta.

In the next episode, "Dog in the Fight", Daniel gets stranded in a lonely part of Barcelona.
The cab driver drops him off in the apse of the Barcelona Cathedral on Comptes Street, a very lively area in the Gothic Quarter.
For the light, it looks like they filmed in the early morning before the crowds of tourists, street vendors, and pickpockets flood the place.
Image courtesy of Netflix - Map
The beach scenes were filmed at the Sant Sebastià beach near the hotel.
After Samantha bumps into Axel on this beach in the eighth episode, "Snakes on a Plane," they walk the streets of the picturesque (and usually tipsy-tourist-filled) Barceloneta neighborhood.
Image courtesy of Netflix - Maps: Beach / Barceloneta
Scenes featuring Miyagi Dojo members training in the city were filmed at several Barcelona landmarks, including the famous Rambles boulevard, the Sagrada FamÃlia square beneath the iconic temple, and the interior of the Art Nouveau Hospital de Sant Pau (pictured).
Image courtesy of Netflix - Maps: Rambles / Sagrada FamÃlia / Hospital
Also are featured the viewpoint at the top of the monumental staircase on Montjuïc, where the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is located, and Plaça Reial, where Johnny drinks a beer while the others smash melons.
Image courtesy of Netflix - Maps: Montjuïc / Plaça Reial
There are also two of these training scenes filmed outside of Barcelona, the one with the bridge is Besalú (pictured), a medieval town in the Girona region known for its well-preserved Romanesque architecture.
The last is Sant Miquel del Fai, an 11th-century monastery perched on a cliff in the Sant Llorenç del Munt Natural Park.

Where was Bobby skateboarding in s1 e8?
ReplyDeleteI Think Venice Beach Skatepark.
DeleteOld 4th Ward Skatepark Atlanta
DeleteAll i wanna know is why the hell did they shoot the skating episode at Cascade when EVERYBODY knows Cascade is in Atlanta ....(It was obviously in ATL) that somehow bothered me because they are SUPPOSEDLY suppose to be in Cali but i just laughed when that scene came on tbh lol
ReplyDeleteI was expecting it to be filmed at Pickwick Arena in Burbank or possibly the rink in Panorama City
DeleteSucks they didn't film it in LA. The backdrops look nothing like LA, especially the scene where Daniel takes Robby to the mountains to practice. Nowhere in California looks anything like that. Lame. Bring back filming to Los Angeles!
ReplyDeleteThe GA tax break, oof
DeleteYeah, it should be filmed in LA, it's disappointing to know that it was filmed in Atlanta.
DeleteA lot of movies and shows are being filmed in Georgia since it's cheaper to film there than it is out in California that's why they will only shoot a specific number of scenes out in California but most of it is shot in Georgia
DeleteYes, I know! I just am so annoyed because I live in california and there is almost nothing filmed there. I want to see all the places where it was filmed.
DeleteI agree, get all the filming out of GA, we dont need it here, bring it back to LA where it belongs, and continue to destroy it over there.
DeleteIt costs too much money to film in La now
DeleteI agree with Sharon, I live close to Big Bear and that bike ride up to Big Bear looks nothing like that!!!! SMH
ReplyDeleteGive me a break. No one outside LA knows or cares that it is shot in LA. Hollywood and acting is about making it feel real. To the 98% of the country outside LA it feels right. Love it
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! So many things filmed in LA look nothing like the place the show/ movie is actually set in. Let the competition make you better if y’all really care. ATL!
DeleteYeah, back in the day, LA was a cool place to film. But now LA is a joke to do any filming... You first would have to clear all the homeless off the streets and repaint every building and road sign before each set-up and shoot. Do you have any idea how many permits and fees are involved? There are way more expenses involved with union crews and the required two backup crews, security, and LAPD issues... Not to mention LA is way overcrowded and looks like A$$ compared to what it used to look like back in the day of those 80's movies we grew up watching.
DeleteThe training that took place in the mountains appears to be Stone Mountain in GA
ReplyDeleteArabia Mountain
DeleteTrue. To me the lake looks like the one inside stone mountain park that the old fashioned steam boat used to take you around.
DeleteWhere is the last shot at the beach when Ali accept his friend request??
ReplyDeleteHiya I am a local Atlanta native and I know the theme park they used for Golf and Stuff is a local theme park called Fun Spot America (formally Dixieland Fun Park) and that was my first day job when I was in High School, The mini golf and arcade are all in that park. The park was also the set for the festival where both dojos put on their demonstrations in Fire and Ice, those carnival rides are all rides I operated on
ReplyDeleteAnother Motion Picture/Television Show filmed out of state. Good job braniacs!
ReplyDeleteKeep those taxes ludicrously high so ALL filming continues migrating not only out of state, but, out of country.
It's cheaper to move production to Canada versus Hollywood.
ASININE!
I just want to know why they shoot Cobra Kai in ATL?
ReplyDeleteBasically because of Georgia's tax film incentives.
Deletesame as why they film Ozark, Walking Dead and 100s more. TAX Breaks!
Delete1 GA is a beautiful state with beaches, mountains, forests, and new or old historic cities. 2 It isn't closed down by crazy mayors or governors. 3 It welcomes visitors and industry and has the infrastructure to support it. 4 It welcomes the above with tax incentives and an affordable place to work and play by not instituting crazy liberal ideologies that either tax and increase costs or create policy bureaucratic headaches for everyone.
DeleteAsk your politicians.
DeleteBuenas alguien sabe donde esta el dojo de miyagui.
ReplyDeleteI think the boat scene with Sam and Daniel talking about her panic attacks were filmed at Sweetwater State Park in Lithia Springs, Ga. Not 100 percent certain
ReplyDeleteYes it was sweetwater creek state park.
DeleteExterior of the house was shot just down the street from me in Marietta (East Cobb) Georgia. Same with the Country Club
ReplyDeleteI’ve got another one for you! The first shot of the Doyona Building, in S3:E3, just before the skyscraper shot, is actually the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. That building front was also used in Wakanda as the headquarters location.
ReplyDeleteAnd also 'The Resident' series hospital! Awesome, thanks a lot, Kate!
DeleteI live in Atlanta and in season 3 they steal the snake from the Fernbank Science Center near VA Highlands. I went there often as a nanny, and then with my own kids as well. It’s a small free museum that is usually pretty empty. Not to be confused with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, which is about a quarter mile away from it.
ReplyDeleteMan i totally thought of this too! The stairs and they entrance door have so much alike
ReplyDeleteWow, the filming is literally all over the place! They even filmed a scene at Tybee Pier, which is close to Savannah where I live. The thing is that they're constantly shooting movies and TV shows in and out of different places in Georgia, but you'd never know, because they keep it real secretive. As already said once before, they also film in so many different places - making the interior of one place completely separate from its exterior, which is in a completely different place. TV magic these days!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what lake Daniel took Sam to in episode 7.
ReplyDeleteI came here looking for this same answer. I don’t think it’s anywhere in LA
DeleteIt looks like the lake off of Hwy 60 in Dahlonega.
DeleteEven though most of it was filmed in Georgia, a couple parts here and there I think were filmed in southern Cal, such as the exterior shots of Golf'n Stuff and the rotating sign, that was the same exterior shot from Karate Kid, which is in Norwalk, southern Cal.
ReplyDeleteWhat Lake were Daniel and his daughter fishing on in season 3 episode 7. I’m guessing a north GA lake. I died laughing that it’s supposed to be California. To make it believable it has to have a million boats, no smooth water and a dead body or two floating around.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where the opening scene at the bar was filmed in S3 E4? I'm trying to find the artwork for the amazing wallpaper surrounding the TV!
ReplyDeleteThe "Northridge City Council" chambers are actually the Marietta City Council chambers.
ReplyDeleteI live in London right now but I want to live rest of my life in ATL after watching cobra Kai series, I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Yukie's house? and the miyagi dojo (okinawa)? i know its not in okinawa....;D
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned that Amanda went to West Hills high school. She's Daniel's wife.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where is the building with the wings painted on it (where Johnny takes pictures in front of for his Facebook)? I'm wondering if it was just a set.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not! They filmed all the interior scenes for the first two seasons at the actual house in Marietta, and only built a set for S3 because there was no realistic way to shoot an epic karate battle that took weeks to film in an ordinary house.
ReplyDeleteJust for future reference, the biggest "tell" that scenes were shot around Atlanta vs. L.A. is the fall foliage. L.A. has *some* foliage, but nothing like what you see on the East Coast. The set designer also seems to tote around a fairly pathetic-looking palm tree that pops up in the background occasionally, in locations ranging from outside the dojo to Daniel's car dealerships to even the LaRusso house! (Just watch the backgrounds in any given episode & you'll see both the palm tree & incongruous fall color.) Btw the reason it wasn't filmed in L.A. is because its first two seasons were SUPER low-budget, and run on YouTube's now-defunct premium channel. Netflix acquired it after YouTube decided to shutter its original programming, but by this point, almost all of the settings are too well-established around Atlanta to move it.
Where is that restaurant that Daniel went to once? I think it might've been a quesadilla-type place, but I forgot, it's been a while since I last watched.
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny. I live in Marietta, GA. I actually know where most of the metro ATL locations are at because I have driven by for different reasons in my days, YET until I just saw where the LaRusso family house address is I had no idea that I drive by this house EVERY SINGLE WORKDAY twice. I cut down that street on way to and from work. I do not think it is that visible from the road, I will look in the AM on way to work.
ReplyDeleteCool reading about the locations. I was wondering what school they were at when Johnny was trying to recruit girls for Eagle Fang. A lot of the Atlanta locations are actually pretty far south into the city, and the locals probably have no familiarity with CK. And these areas have more dilapidated shopping centers that they can take over for the show. I wish they did more filming in suburbs along the 285 top-end.
ReplyDeleteWell God forbid one show is not filmed in LA!
ReplyDeleteThe old-fashioned bar in season 4 is the private club at Chops Steakhouse in Buckhead, Atlanta. 70 West Paces Ferry Rd.
I would like to know in season 4 episode 2, the supermarket scene, where Daniel's wife ran into John Kreese. Where is that supermarket?
ReplyDeleteI want to know where the tournament was filmed in season 4 because this location is not the same one as the location used in season 1.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where the warehouse in season four is in real life? I believe in s4 ep2 you see Webber industrial on the side.
ReplyDeleteMost probably a set. Webber is an homage to Daniel's original surname.
DeleteWhat golf in stuff? I live next to the one in Southgate CA. And looks just like it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a huge bummer that more scenes were not filmed in SoCa. Is it cheaper in Atlanta? I understand maybe if filming took place last year because of Covid but really? Big Bear is well Big Bear. We have lakes... Silverwood Lake?
ReplyDeleteAgain just a bummer… not so authentic.
Sorry but super lame. Why the heck wouldn’t you use the original Golf n Stuff like back in ‘84?
If you didn't know, it wasn't lame?
ReplyDeleteThe home is pending and was listed at $2.4 mil, 130 Woodlawn Dr. NE Marietta GA
Silver's house filming location is in Atlantic Beach, Florida, on the ocean. They also had projectors set up on the side of One ocean which wasn’t shown in season 4, so I think it will be in season 5. My guess is Mr. Miyagi‘s old house is somewhere in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, Fl. I could be wrong about that, but the house and surrounding trees and everything look wicked familiar. I recognized Johnny's girlfriend/Miguel‘s mom at our local supermarket, but I wasn’t sure and I didn’t know anything about the filming at the time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks way better than LA ever would. Glad they are filming around Atlanta. And only native Angelinos would know it doesn't look like it (me being one).
ReplyDeleteWinnetka may be a location in Illinois, but for this show, I'm sure it's referring to the Winnetka neighborhood (a small area in the west San Fernando Valley).
I am trying to find out if the grocery store and convenience locations are the same. The backgrounds of both look the same.
ReplyDeleteHi, I would like to know where is Terry Silver's house because it has beautiful architecture.
ReplyDeleteSo my son is going to be nine next week... he is a die-hard cobra kai fan. His favorite is Hawk, he is having a pretty hard time at school being bullied. He invited his class to his party and some girl threw the invites in the trash. He was too embarrassed to tell me. As he fought back tears he said "they probably didn't want to come anyway". The school is aware, but I really want to try to do something to help his mind off it at his party, the first birthday party since covid.
ReplyDeleteSo my question is and I am hoping someone on one of these pages might be able to help. Any idea how I can get an autograph or a happy birthday video from Hawk? I am willing to pay. I know it will make him so happy!

If you want to request an autograph, follow the guidelines bellow. If you live in USA send a properly stamped and self addressed envelope (minimum size 8.5" x 4") with your request letter and a photo. You can include a piece of cardboard to keep the photo from bending in shipping and also add "Do Not Bend" on the envelopes. Send your letter and wait. On average, there is going to be a 3+ month wait for a response.
The forest scenes in season 1 are such a lie in this show.
ReplyDeleteI found Terry Silver’s Season 5 House https://www.joelkelly.com/redding-road and the address is 2798 Redding RD NE
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Mexico Fight Club Filmed with the Cage?
ReplyDeleteInsurgent series, Justified, Coma remake, and Red Dragon were all filmed at the High Museum.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where stingrays house is in season 4, episode 8?
ReplyDeleteWhat about when they were at Spa Land in Duluth?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where was filmed the spicy pepper Robby eats scene?
ReplyDeleteThose aquarium scenes look exactly like the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta…
ReplyDeleteIs Café La Máquina in Barcelona?
