Posted by Ra Moon
The sequel to The Kissing Booth picks up where the first installment left off, revolving around the long-distance relationship of Elle Evans (Joey King) and Noah Flynn (Euphoria's star Jacob Elordi).
The Kissing Booth 2 was filmed in South Africa, California, and Boston. Like the first part, the movie combines establishing shots of Los Angeles and Santa Monica, but most of the scenes were recorded in Cape Town.

Joel Courtney plays Elle's best friend Lee and Meganne Young is his girlfriend, Rachel. Joining the main cast are Taylor Perez (Marco) and Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Chloe (known by her roles in The Originals and Legends of Tomorrow).
Here is our spoiler-free guide to the filming locations of the second part, filmed at the same time as the third movie.
Following these links you can also find all the locations where The Kissing Booth part one was filmed and our new The Kissing Booth 3 report, including the superb beach house location.
The movie opens where it closes -right, we said no spoilers- with Elle riding her motorbike Honda VT 750 C Shadow in a scenic coastal windy drive.
This is the spectacular R44 road going east from Cape Town, offering breathtaking views of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve mountains on one side and the ocean in False Bay on the other.
The Kissing Booth School
The Los Angeles Country Day High School pictured in the film is actually the campus of the University of Cape Town.
Shooting in South Africa brings down the production costs and this area of the country has a climate similar to California.

The high school classrooms, courtyard, and corridors are the Smuts Hall, a UCT Student Residence.
This magnificent building is located in the Upper Campus overlooking the city on the slopes of Devil's Peak. This location was very easy to recognize as it was heavily featured in the Blood and Water series premiered in May 2020.

The exteriors of the awesome Halloween party with a corridor of human candleholders is the Lichtenstein Castle Guest House in Hout Bay. Perched upon the Karbonkelberg Mountain in the valley on the Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula, this is a popular wedding venue.
The manor house, decorated with dragons and gargoyle statues, is a replica of the original Gothic Schloss Lichtenstein Castle in Württemberg (Germany), built by a South African businessman between 1986 and 1998. You can rent this stately home as a four-bedroom private villa.

Elle and Marco visit the iconic Amoeba Music store at 6400 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
This branch of the independent music store has now permanently closed down, although the company has plans to reopen it in a new space.

The Los Angeles Country Day festival and the kissing booth game at the end of the movie were filmed in The Rooiplein (also known as the Jan Marais square).
The square is located in the Stellenbosch University campus, a city situated around 50 miles east of Cape Town.

You won't find the movie's small park pavilion anywhere, as it was built just for the film on location at Wynberg Park.

The Kissing Booth house
Elle's house is a private home in Hout Bay, a wealthy and picturesque seaside neighborhood.
Elle is not doing bad at all: Apart from living in this awesome house, having a handsome boyfriend, and being picked up every day by Joel onboard a gorgeous Ford Mustang GT 350, she expects to be admitted to Harvard or Berkeley.
The luxurious Flynn’s House with an internal (and external) swimming pool has actually only one level, the upper floors were added via CGI.
This is the same Love Island villa featured in the 2020 edition of the British ITV program.
Nestled in the exclusive Eagles Nest neighborhood in Cape Town, the 15,000 sq ft. mansion boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a huge garden with views to Table Mountain National Park.

I'm from Cape Town and loved watching all the familiar scenes! Here are some more Cape Town locations:
ReplyDelete-The outside of LAX is Cape Town International Airport
-The dance competition looks like it was filmed at the Grand Arena at Grandwest Casino
-The scene where Marco sings was filmed at the V&A Waterfront
-and many random scenes at the Cape Town Convention Center
Also loved seeing all the familiar Cape Town scenes. The castle scene is a real castle - we got married there. It's the Lichtenstein Castle in Hout Bay. The inaide of the LAX airport looks like the CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Center)

ReplyDeleteThis was so fun to read. Me and my friends have been talking about the filming locations and some of my suspicions have been confirmed. I am a student at Stellenbosch where the kissing booth festival scene was filmed. At first I thought it was a real carnival, but when I heard the sequel is being shot there, the people setting up there let me and my friend walk through. It was so fun and looks so much cooler in front of you.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the school some storie call it bucker high why is that
