Where was The Boys Filmed? Guide to ALL the Filming Locations
Posted by Ra Moon
Back for the fourth season, The Boys brings a very different and darker approach to the world of superheroes, compared to the Marvel and DC universes.
As if they were the corrupted counterpart of the Avengers, a selected team of top superheroes, The Seven, is controlled by a corporation that manages their services as a business, looking for profit and fame. A group of misfits with no powers called ‘The Boys’ will try to expose and stop them.
As if they were the corrupted counterpart of the Avengers, a selected team of top superheroes, The Seven, is controlled by a corporation that manages their services as a business, looking for profit and fame. A group of misfits with no powers called ‘The Boys’ will try to expose and stop them.
The Boys is set in New York according to establishing shots, but the show was primarily filmed in Toronto, Ontario.

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Lucy met her demise at Fifty Point Beach in Hamilton:

They would have built a faux sewer entrance there.
The scene with Kimiko and her brother talking on the street in season two, episode two, at 52:16 is on the Esplanade, just east of Jarvis Street:

He runs east away from Kimiko and then can be seen running west in front of this construction cladding, which has been painted white since the google street view survey
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6491348,-79.3670228,3a,75y,35.23h,67.31t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWkDZ_9QXrKKgdGlsU0cMUg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
It then cuts so a shot of him running south down Frederick street, back on the Esplanade:

And then he throws her into this building:

Before running down the Esplanade right where they started and getting choked out:

Just did a quick rewatch of episode four.
ReplyDeleteThe recap reminded me: This is where Jennifer Esposito’s head blew up:

As for the rest this is all I could figure out:
1. Grace and Billy have a chat at 5:58 in Regent Park. Somewhere on Oak Street. It’s driving me crazy trying to find the exact spot. When they filmed this last year Oak street would have been the division between the existing building to the north from the 1950s (behind Grace) and one of the new buildings from the late 2010s (behind Billy).
2. This one is easy: At 18:06 Hughie, Starlight and MM are on Adelaide near Jarvis where you can clearly see the AAA sign and part of the Edible Arrangements sign beside it.
3. 28:43 - Billy and Becca meet on Wiley Bridge in Brampton. There's a daytime scene later in the episode where you can see things more clearly.

4. Hughie and Starlight take a stroll down College near University. They start here, I guess they CGIed out Toronto General Hospital on the side of the building:
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6592752,-79.3901265,3a,50y,115.25h,98.52t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sPl4N6Poaa91ekRDaljCgLA!2e0!5s20180301T000000!7i16384!8i8192
They continue the conversation across the street here before Starlight goes down the escalator:
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6597886,-79.3907108,3a,45.2y,195.03h,88.83t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1suzThzzP6Xtg2QfwjC85Jzg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
The actual first scene - the one of Mauve and Homelander stopping the armed truck robbery, is on the corner of King William st and John St in Hamilton.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 5 when Billy is in the bar drinking looks like it’s filmed the bar in Toronto called Sneaky Dees
ReplyDeleteEpisode 5:
ReplyDeleteAt 7:59. Vought Fresh Farms - this was filmed in a Pharmasave – you can see the E in the sign blocked off by boxes, top right at the first scene. The “wellness starts here” sign over the pharmacy counter is a dead giveaway. No idea which Pharmasave it is.
At about 11 minutes Frenchie and Kimiko are at 1721 Jane Street in York:
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.7038661,-79.5039901,3a,43.4y,32.66h,87.7t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sXSkAlz5LUF6XdckRKnQkbw!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo0.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DXSkAlz5LUF6XdckRKnQkbw%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D46.782776%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en-US
At 29:56 Frenchie and Kimiko are on Bloor Street around St Paul’s:
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6713217,-79.3823838,3a,75y,86.75h,84.34t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sofbrmvIIuVAoOiAWJyQNOg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
Interiors were filmed in St Paul’s:
http://www.fordhampr.ca/i-visit-my-next-door-neighbour-st-pauls-on-bloor-street-for-doors-open-toronto/
And finally, the show called Eat My Dick is actually season one episode 11 of Outlander.
That’s all I got for this episode.
ReplyDeleteAt 42:25 the building behind Frenchie is The Eclipse Building at 322-324 King Street West, on the northeast corner of John and King West:
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.646924,-79.3898457,3a,75y,52.62h,102.33t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1susBp1OJnQlx85dcF9LaAXg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
With the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theater across the street (80 John Street) being the exterior of the entrance to the theatre in the show.
To elaborate on what was anonymously posted in the comments about a year ago:
ReplyDeleteThe exterior shots of Sage Grove were filmed at the Regional Mental Health Centre at Sunset Dr. St Thomas.

Season 2 episode 1
ReplyDeleteWhen Butcher is in the restaurant writing with a crayon, the front doors that he leaves through is an East Side Mario’s
The restaurant Stan Edgar and Billy meet in is the Chase. There is also a scene at the entrance on Temperance where Stan gets in his car.
ReplyDeleteA-train confronts Hughie and Starlight near the George Brown college St James campus at King and George st.
Thanks! :)
DeleteSeason 2, Episode 7: When Hughie and Lamplighter are breaking into Vought HQ - that alleyway is Emily St, at King. I used to work in that building! It's a block over from Roy Thompson.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2, Episode 2:
ReplyDeleteThe scenes filmed at the "warehouse" filled with party supplies where Kenji is found is Amazing Party Store (734 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4Y 2B6). The huge purple gorilla on the roof is what has me conviced that it is the same place!
I believe the opening scene is shot on john st in
ReplyDeletehamilton
Can't remember the episode, but in season 2 when Annie and Hughie break up and she takes the escalator down to the subway station, it's filmed right outside the north entrance to Queens Park Station. They add a few NY posters and signs, but you can still see the Line 1 sign and some Canada Post mailboxes in the background.
ReplyDeleteS03E02 at 27:42 - The Vought 33rd Annual Firearm Convention and Exposition is the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. When Billy is going through security you can see the mural in the background.
ReplyDeleteS03E03 at 33:25 - This scene takes place on Oxley Street between Spadina and Charlotte.
At 39:43, MM, Butcher, and Hughie meet in Ching Lane, near Yonge and Adelaide.
ReplyDeleteTo expand on the exploding Dineen Building: 20:46 the camera is panning down at the Saks Fifth Avenue at Yonge and Queen.
Soldier Boy then walks south down Yonge and they show a New York City Bus… but you can see some TTC busses in the background after that. They added a bus stop that’s not normally there as well.
You can also see the Good Life Fitness sign a little in some of these shots, but when Solider Boy turns onto Temperance the sign is gone.
The base in season 3 episode 4 is the back of city hall in Brantford Ontario. Brutalist architecture at its finest.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious where the TNT twin's house is from season 3 episode 6.
The Buster Beaver pizza location was filmed at "Windies" at 3330 Lawrence Ave East in Scarborough.
ReplyDeleteThe costume shop, which gets trashed in S02, E02 (Proper Preparation and Planning) is located at 734 Dundas Street East in Mississauga. Right next to the Bike Zone. It has since been closed down permanently.
ReplyDeleteIn season 3, when Homelander goes to see Ryan, the yellow house in the background is the Dalziel House located on the north property of Black Creek Pioneer Village. It is not accessible to the public.
Buster Beavers was the original Pop Shop built in the 1970s by Eddie Shack of Toronto Maple Leafs fame.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 the episode after Herogasm, where they go walk through the park, anyone know which park that is?
ReplyDeleteThis is the playground in front of Nelson Mendella public school on Shuter St, near Sumach. This was when they were filming season one.

In season 2 episode 7, Billy Butcher’s conversation with his dad takes places at Town Inn Suites at Church St and Charles St E in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteTook me half an hour of searching Google maps to confirm the exact location lol

S-4E01 at 13:13 when Kimiko jumps out of the window, this is the back of the King Edward Hotel, on Colborne Street
ReplyDeleteS04E02 - 1:06 - the scenes with Will Ferrell - this is Regent Park. Between Oak and Gerrard, just west of River Street.
Nice to have you back, TJ! I always really enjoy your detailed location shares :D
ReplyDeleteS04E04 - The Vaught On Ice scenes were filmed at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa.
ReplyDeleteS04E03 42:35 - When A-Train whisks Huey off away from the arena, they end up in McFarrens Lane. One street east of Sherborne Between Queen and Richmond. The camera is facing South.
Episode S04E066 - Dirty Business
ReplyDeleteWhen Hughie spreads his dad’s ashes at the Beresford Hotel, this was filmed outside The Royal Connaught in Hamilton. I remember this location from The Umbrella Academy.
Not to get too Meta, but the fictional Barefored Hotel - it was actually the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel at 301 Park Avenue, Manhattan.
So The Royal Connaught was posing as the Barefored Hotel, which had the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel posing at it.
So this is a filming location posing as a different filming location. Mind blown. Only not by Victoria Neuman this time.
Full confession: I have never seen Maid In Manhattan ( I have too much self-respect), but rather I have two things going for me: OCD about filming locations and Google Street View, plus a pretty good knowledge of Toronto and Hamilton, having walked both cities extensively, and I love old buildings. So, I could be completely wrong in this.
One oddity in all this: In this episode the address the set decorators (or location decorators - not sure why they’re called) disguised The Royal Connaught as this location, the address they put on the front was 3301 Park Avenue. 3301, not 301. I consider this as a personal attack on my OCD.
And thank you, Sander, that is kind of you to say.
A-Train is in Toronto, so they have him in front of the Skydome and the CN Tower, and I can't stop laughing at the embarrassing cliche. And yeah, you go ahead and call it the Rogers Centre if blind adherence to such pedantry helps distract you from the fact that corporate sponsorships are a blatant symptom of how late capitalism is killing our planet and our humanity. I'll call it the Skydome. Or hell with a retractable roof. I hate sports and the acoustics are horrible for concerts.
S04E06 = @ 11:53 - these are the stables at Casa Loma.
The establishing shot outside of said studios is Oak Hall.
Well, after a couple of hours (and only then realizing that it was Metro Hall seen in the background), I managed to find the exterior of Starlight House and where the stage was built for Firecracker's live show meant to discredit Starlight, as seen in 4x04.
ReplyDeleteThe stage was at 229 Richmond St W, Toronto - which makes the entrance to Bell Media Headquarters, barely glimpsed when Annie leaves the building and notices the stage for the first time.
4x05: The church from the teaser of Firecracker's upcoming movie - Little Trinity Anglican Church, 425 King St E, Toronto.
Stadium of A-Train: Return to Hamilton's Tim Hortons Field stadium (the shots with Will Ferrell - there is a shot with a track around the field that I cannot find anywhere as of yet).
Unfortunately, no luck with the farm. Which I hope TJ can still track down.
I see lots of streetcar tracks and many orange and turquoise taxis.
ReplyDeleteThe farm in season 4 is Coffee Creek Farm in Caledon East.
ReplyDeleteThere was one location I recognized straight away (as it was also in Saw II as one of John Kramer/Jigsaw's lairs and in others) and that was Hearn Generating Station, 440 Unwin Ave, Toronto. It is here where The Boys get their new passports from MM.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, the establishing shot for MM leaving was John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Also interesting to note was that Red River returned, and appears to be the same missing location as seen before in 3x02 and 3x03. TJ, do you have any clues on this one? This appears to be the best pic of its front:
