Where was Bird Box filmed? The house, the river & all the locations

Now back for a second installment set in Barcelona, Bird box was filmed on location in and around Los Angeles in California. This film is based on the 2014 novel by Josh Malerman of the same name.

If the sense of hearing played a key role in the terror thriller A Quiet Place, this time, the troubled characters of this movie must to avoid using their eyes in order to survive.

Malorie (played by Sandra Bullock) is a mother of two young children who embarks on a dangerous journey by boat to escape a mysterious entity that appears everywhere outside of safe buildings.

Malorie will meet other survivors, including Tom (Trevante Rhodes, the actor who starred in the acclaimed 2016 film Moonlight), and Douglas, played by John Malkovich.

Here is our comprehensive guide to the filming locations of this intriguing movie, in order of appearance. There are minor spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution!

Also, thanks to some store signs, we were able to trace part of the driving scene filmed on the main street of La Puente.

The story is also influenced by the ideas exposed in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening and Fernando Meirelles' Blindness.

However, the car accident takes place on Sierra Madre, at Sierra Madre Boulevard and North Hermosa Avenue.

Some street scenes were filmed in Monrovia, including the exterior of the house where most of the film takes place, located at 304 North Canyon Boulevard.

This house became a hot spot after the release of the movie, as many tourists came here to take a selfie posing as the characters from the film.

The river used for the filming is the Smith River in Del Norte County.

It has no dams and has spectacular sections of rapids and waterfalls, ideal for rafting enthusiasts, including the Red Canyons Of North Fork, Oregon Hole Gorge and the South Fork.

Some of the gorgeous redwood forests were shot in the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near Crescent City (Smith River crosses the grounds of the park).

The cast and crew also filmed at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, home to some of the largest coast redwoods seen in the movie.

The final scenes were filmed at Scripps College in Claremont founded in 1926.

This beautiful campus was designed by Gordon Kaufmann in the Spanish Colonial Revival style.
