The live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast is based on the 1991 Disney animated film, a tale as old as time.

Beauty and the Beast was filmed mostly on the sound stages and backlot at Shepperton Studios in the UK. 27 beautiful and intricate sets were built there. The rooms in the castle of the Beast combine French Rococo and Baroque with other European architectural styles.

The movie brings the romance to life using the most advanced technology, blending spectacular CGI with real-world places and actors.

The cast is led by Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens and includes celebrities like Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, and Josh Gad.

The closest place in real life to the fictional town of Villeneuve is the village of Conques in the Aveyron in southern France.

The fountain in the main square is inspired by the one in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany.

Today, this gorgeous medieval town is a tourist attraction that has preserved many half-timbered houses lined in cobblestone streets.

Essentially, the only real filming locations out of the soundstages are the Winterfold Forest and Hurtwood, situated near the studios, also in Surrey, and the prominent hill of Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire.
