Guy Ritchie's 2015 The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was filmed in Italy and England. This elegant remake of the classic TV series from the 60s is also set during the Cold War.
A top CIA agent infiltrates East Berlin to track down the daughter of a Nazi scientist who can create an atomic bomb for a criminal organization. The American agent and another one from KGB will team up with the girl, to face together the common enemy.

The movie is a classic spy-action-comedy, filmed with a Guy Ritchie flavor like Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
The leading actors form a troupe of sexy and glamorous Hollywood stars, headed by Alicia Vikander (the new Tomb Raider's Lara Croft, Henry Cavill (also known as The Witcher), Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Debicki, and Hugh Grant.
They will take us to the dazzling filming locations in Italy and the United Kingdom where the movie is set. Contains no spoilers!
We start in Rome, just below the Spanish Steps in the Fontana Della Barcaccia (or Fountain of the Ugly Boat) in Piazza di Spagna.
The Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is a sort of new Audrey Hepburn. If you are in Rome, try to ride a Vespa scooter in style like Hepburn and Gregory Peck did in the 1953 classic film Roman Holiday.

Vespa scooters were also part of the world of La Dolce Vita, another clear inspiration for the look of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
The spies are staying in the magnific the Grand Plaza Hotel, a 5-star historic hotel in the heart of the Eternal City at 126 Via del Corso.
The Roman branch of John Wick's Continental Hotel in the second installment of the saga was shot here.
Also, this is one of the locations where the Ripley series was filmed.
In the scene pictured, the secret agent trio is allegedly on the terrace of the Grand Plaza Hotel.
However, the statue in the background is standing on the top of Trajan's Column, almost a mile away from the real location of the luxurious hotel.
The scene was filmed on the terrace of the building at the left of the picture, in Piazza Venezia.
The cupulas belong to two different churches: Santa Maria di Loreto and Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano.

A scene was shot late at night in a corner of what is left of the magnificent Theater of Marcellus, built 13 years before the birth of Christ.

The Convent of Santa Teresa di Caprarola and the nearby splendid Villa Farnese in the north of Rome doubled as the Vinciguerra estate.
The next few locations are situated in the Gulf of Naples in Campania. Some shots with local fishermen were filmed in the small and colorful port of Corricella on the island of Procida.

The Victoria and Alexander Vinciguerra island was made combining the banana shape of Vivara Island and adding to it the Aragonese Castle of Baia in Bacoli from the wonderful island of Ischia.

Baia Castle, also known as Castello Aragonese (Castle from Aragon) is a fortress that proved virtually impregnable, dominating the entire Gulf of Pozzuoli.
The red house in the bottom -Villa Ferretti- also appears in the film. It turns out that this property was confiscated from the mafia not long ago.

Some more scenes were also filmed at Castel dell'Ovo, the oldest castle in the city of Naples.
Some other shots in Naples that appear in the movie include the marina and a building from Mostra d'Oltremare (a venue for exhibitions).

The rest of the filming locations are found in the United Kingdom. Some exterior scenes with vehicles were shot in the Cambrian Mountains near Aberystwyth, Wales.
The set of Cafe Gustav and the bathhouse in Berlin (the city where the fictional town of Winden from Dark series is filmed), was built at Regent's Park in London.
The Goodwood Circuit is a historic venue for motor racing fans, near Chichester in West Sussex.
The circuit fits very well to the spirit of the film: Every year there is a retro car meeting -Goodwood Revival-, a festival that recreates the golden era of motorsport of the 1950s and 1960s.
The Wartburg vs. Trabant car chase scene was filmed at the Historic Dockyard Chatham and at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, one of the Enola Holmes locations.
The boat chase scenes were shot at London Docklands.
